Visitor measurement
We measure page views, estimated visitors and sessions, device category, browser, operating system, language, referring website, campaign tags, outbound clicks, time spent actively viewing a page and scroll depth. This helps us understand whether the directory is useful.
Country is estimated locally from your IP address using IP Geolocation by DB-IP, under its Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license. Location can be inaccurate, especially with VPNs. Your IP is not sent to a geolocation service or stored in our analytics database. A server-secret hash of the IP and browser information provides an estimate of unique visitors, rotating monthly. We do not attempt to identify individual parents.
Detailed analytics events are retained for 90 days. A random session identifier is stored in session storage for the browsing session. Shortlisted schools are saved in your browser’s local storage. We honor Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control signals, and you can opt out below. No advertising pixels are used.
School accounts and email
We store school editor email addresses, verification records and an audit history of changes. Sign-in links are single-use and expire after 20 minutes. A secure, HttpOnly session cookie keeps an editor signed in for up to 12 hours. School editors can access their own assigned profiles. Directory administrators can manage all profiles and access visitor reports.
Emails are delivered through our Gmail account. Invitation recipients are official school contact addresses from public school sources or contacts verified by our administrator. Invitations include an opt-out link. Opt-out addresses are retained to prevent further invitations. We do not add tracking pixels to emails.
Hosting, security and requests
The directory and database are hosted on our DigitalOcean server. Operational server logs may contain IP addresses for security and troubleshooting; they are separate from the analytics database and rotate under the server’s log retention settings. Backups may retain previous records until they expire. School photos are optimized and image metadata is removed on new uploads.
